Always up-to-date with KBA retrofits – for future-focused presses

Technology and processes are constantly developing. Now and again it makes economic sense to update existing systems to prevent production downtimes, reduce costs and remain competitive. Spare parts for older presses, for example, can quickly become scarce which makes upgrading urgently necessary. A further advantage: cutting-edge presses permit comfortable and cost-saving remote diagnosis via VPN.

Retrofits are a fixed part of our service offerings in gravure. We specialise in control technology, doctor blades and turning facilities. We do not just offer this service for KBA presses, but also for presses from other manufacturers.

Our retrofit services

Parts of control and drive technology which have aged technologically are taken out of manufacturers product portfolios and are no longer produced making receiving spare parts more difficult or even impossible. KBA-FT Engineering exchanges entire control technology or individual parts, such as control levels, drive controllers or assemblies and drives.

The benefits

  • Enhanced production security
  • Cutting-edge operating methods and more operational comfort
  • Less start-up waste through efficient pre-setting systems
  • Shorter paths through additional consoles
  • Guaranteed and cost-effective spare parts supply
  • Easier maintenance through modern technology
  • Error diagnosis via remote maintenance
  • Targeted identification of weaknesses
  • New automation functions
  • Operating data acquisition

KBA-FT Engineering offers to optimise your doctor blade unit by retrofitting a floating doctor blade holder to ensure uniform thermal expansion of the blade.

Improved printing results

  • Compensation of changes in length of doctor blade as a result of friction heat

» Printed image without “cloudy” appearance

Enhanced user friendliness and reduced risk of injury:

  • Independent alignment of doctor blade at edge of the blade bank
  • Blade clamp is opened and closed hydraulically with a hand lever valve

» No operating errors at doctor blade opening during machine run or injuries to fingers during changeovers

KBA-FT Engineering offers to retrofit a turning facility for printing on both sides of the web. It is an auxiliary unit which is added to the press.

The benefits

  • More opportunities for inline finishing through idle turning units
  • Economical production of products with lower page counts
  • Variable pagination production with less trimming
  • Lower costs for cylinder preparation
  • No special requirements in terms of printing paper
  • Usual gravure print quality
